The Swiss Debt Reduction Program 1991-2001
Achievements and outlook: a comprehensive evaluation after ten years.
Ten years after the creation of the Swiss Debt Reduction Program, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the Swiss Coalition of Development Organizations appointed independent experts to do an overall evaluation. A recent publication summarizes the evaluation and describes strengths and weaknesses of the program. Figures, tables and an appendix with statistics provide an overview. In an assessment of the current situation, the three organizations raise the question of what should be done next. They conclude that the work is not yet completed and that further efforts need to be made in debt reduction and development financing.
